Calcium channel inhibitor;Dantrolene is a small molecule inhibitor of the Ryanodine receptor and a calcium channel protein inhibitor.Blockade of Ca2+ release from the sarcoendoplasmic reticulum, strongly related to excitation and contraction of muscles, generates a muscle relaxant effect correlated with Dantrolene. The neurotoxicity presented by pronounced glutamate activity is correlated to excessive rises in cytoplasmic Ca2+ levels, and Dantrolene is accordingly indicated as a neuroprotective agent against neurotrasmitter-induced excitotoxicity.
